Mama Baby Yoga ~ A Time Out for Mamas
Mama Baby Yoga is a
gentle Hatha Yoga practice for new moms and babies in a therapeutic and restorative setting. This class is tailored to serve moms who want to stay fit before, during and after pregnancy in a safe and healthy manner. Mama Baby Yoga is designed to provide a supportive family yoga experience to enhance a mother's connection with her infant. Babies are included in some of the yoga postures and alternately lie on blankets beside their moms or directly on yoga mats interacting with mom while she practices yoga. Mama Baby Yoga also offers a time for moms to rest and to socialize with other new moms.
Mama Baby Yoga addresses:
- Challenging adjustments to new motherhood
- Healing and recovery of physical body
- Emotional Support
- Physical strains of carrying and feeding a new baby
Each Mama Baby Yoga class begins with simple deep breathing exercises and positive affirmations. The class is structured to address the needs of the whole postpartum experience. A specific focus is placed on gentle postures for opening the shoulders and heart, while strengthening the core muscles of the back and abdomen.
While mamas are practicing restorative postures, infants are often incorporated in the posture or lying nearby on blankets engaging in connection with mother. Moms are encouraged to bond with and comfort their babies throughout the hatha practice.
The class concludes with a quiet relaxation time.
